X5 sDrive40i, xDrive40i, xDrive50e and M: what changes on a lease

The X5 xDrive40i is the X5 most people lease, and it is the version the published X5 offer has named in recent months, with the M Sport package. The sDrive40i has the same engine and drives the rear wheels only; the xDrive40i adds all-wheel drive. On a lease that choice shows up as a gap in MSRP, and the lender's residual is a percentage of MSRP, so the monthly cost of all-wheel drive is a share of the sticker gap spread over the term, not the whole gap.

The xDrive50e is the plug-in hybrid. It carries a battery, an electric motor, more power and a higher MSRP than the 40i, and it can cover a short commute on battery alone; the electric range BMW publishes is in the trims table above. Whether it leases for less than the 40i depends on the program BMW Financial Services runs for it that month, which can carry its own plug-in incentive, so the two should be quoted side by side rather than assumed. Plug-in and electric offers are also listed with the EV lease deals in Los Angeles.

The M60i and the X5 M Competition are the performance X5s, both with a V8. The M60i is the M Performance version of the regular X5; the X5 M Competition is the full M car, and its MSRP is close to double the sDrive40i's. The payment gap between an M60i and an X5 M is on the written quote, not on a formula, because the residual percentage differs by program too.

Packages and options add to MSRP, and a package's monthly cost on a lease is smaller than its price, because the residual applies to it as well. The M Sport package is the common one on the 40i. A dealer's in-stock X5 with a package you did not plan on can still be the lower payment, and an in-stock car can be delivered in under 48 hours.

BMW is moving the X5 to the 2027 model year. On the date we read BMW's site, the X5 overview still listed the 2026 sDrive40i, xDrive40i and xDrive50e, while BMW's configurator listed only the 2027 X5 40 xDrive, under a new name without the "i". The year and the exact model name are on every row of the table above and on the written quote. When both years are on dealer lots, ask for both and we quote both.

  • The residual value and the money factor are set by BMW Financial Services for the specific program and are on the written quote. We do not publish them.

  • The smaller BMW SUV has its own page: X3 lease deals.

How a BMW X5 lease through 021 works

Tell us the X5 you want: 40i, plug-in or M, two- or all-wheel drive, the packages and the color. Several BMW dealers in Southern California quote the same car at once, and you get one written number with our fee shown. Payment, drive-off, term, miles, taxes and fees are on one page before you agree to anything, and you pay once the car is at your door. If you already hold an X5 quote from a dealer, send it and we beat it, or tell you it is already great.

The lease itself is written through BMW Financial Services on approved credit unless the written quote names another lender, so the car, the warranty and the lender are the same as they would be at the dealership. Every published BMW offer is on the BMW lease deals in Los Angeles page, and a car lease broker in Los Angeles does this every day. Delivery anywhere in California; for in-stock cars usually under 48 hours.

Common questions

How much is a lease payment on a BMW X5?

There is no published X5 offer on our list this month, so every X5 is quoted per car. The payment depends on the trim's MSRP, the residual and money factor BMW Financial Services sets for the program, your credit tier and what you pay at signing. Send the trim and color and the written number comes back with due at signing, term and miles.

What is a good monthly payment for a BMW X5 lease?

A good X5 payment is one that several dealers could not beat on the same car at the same drive-off, term and mileage, which is what the table above shows for the published trims. Compare quotes only at the same due at signing; a lower payment with more money up front is not a better deal. If you hold a quote, send it to Beat my deal and we tell you whether it is already good.

Is it better to lease or buy a BMW X5?

Per month, leasing, because the payment covers only the depreciation for the term rather than the whole price. Buying wins if you keep the car six years or more, and an X5 you plan to keep that long is usually better financed. Our lease or buy guide walks the math with your own numbers; ask for both figures on the same car.

What are the current lease deals for a BMW X5?

There is no published X5 offer this month, so the X5 is quoted per car. The BMW lease deals in Los Angeles page shows every published BMW offer; send the X5 you want and we return a written number.

Is the X5 xDrive50e plug-in hybrid cheaper to lease than the xDrive40i?

Not by rule. The plug-in has a higher MSRP, but BMW Financial Services sets a separate program for it, and in some months that program carries a plug-in incentive, so the two payments have to be quoted side by side. If a 50e row appears in the table above, that is the current answer; otherwise ask for both on the same term and mileage.

What is the 1.5% rule for leasing cars?

It is a shopper's rule of thumb: a monthly payment near one percent of MSRP with nothing down is seen as a strong lease, and one and a half percent as a rough ceiling. It ignores tax, the drive-off, term and mileage, and a car at the X5's price rarely reaches the one percent mark however well it is negotiated. Our guide on how to read a lease quote shows the lines that decide the payment.

What are the current BMW lease specials in Los Angeles?

The BMW lease deals in Los Angeles page lists every published BMW offer once the month's list is loaded; today every BMW is quoted per car. The X5, X3 and i4 pages explain what changes between trims on a lease while you wait for the number.

How many miles a year can I drive on an X5 lease?

Choose the mileage with the quote. BMW Financial Services lets you pick the term and the annual mileage; a higher allowance raises the payment and lowers the excess-mileage exposure at turn-in, and additional miles can be bought through its Mileage Adjustment Program before turn-in. Tell us your real annual mileage before we quote.

What happens at the end of a BMW X5 lease?

You return the X5 to a BMW center, buy it for the purchase-option price in your contract, or trade it to a BMW center. BMW Financial Services accepts a buyout only from you or an authorized BMW center, not from an outside dealer. The inspection, the disposition fee and the early-exit options are in our BMW lease return guide; tell us your lease-end date when you ask for a quote.
