Is the $7,500 EV credit still on leases?
No. That is one reason advertised EV lease payments rose across the market this year. What remains are the manufacturers' and lenders' own incentives, which change monthly and are already inside the payments above. When you ask for a quote we list the incentives that apply to you, shown on the quote.
EV lease deals with $0 down
Ask for the same car at $0 down and we quote it: the drive-off spreads across the term, so the payment rises; the exact amount is on the written quote. The total over the lease is a little lower with money down, and the risk if the car is written off early is lower with none; which you choose depends on cash flow.
How to compare electric cars on a lease
Line the quotes up on the same term, mileage and drive-off, then compare four things a gas car never makes you think about.
Range as you will drive it. Use the EPA figure, not the headline, and check the wheel size, because bigger wheels cut range. On the Lexus RZ, lexus.com lists a manufacturer-estimated 301 miles for the 350e on 18-inch wheels and 229 for the 550e F SPORT on 20-inch wheels; the ES 350e is EPA-rated at 307 miles. Cold mornings and freeway speeds take more off. A car that covers your worst week with margin is the right size; one that covers your average day is not.
Where it charges at night. A 240-volt outlet or wall charger at home is what makes an EV cheap to run; public fast charging is the backup, not the plan. If you rent or live under an HOA, California law is on your side; the rules, the overnight utility rates and the charger rebates are in our guide to leasing an EV in California. Check the port too. The Lexus RZ and the electric ES use a NACS port, and the ES ships with a CCS adapter; other makes vary, so ask which networks the car uses without an adapter.
The number at the end. The lender fixes the car's end-of-lease value when you sign and carries the loss if used EV prices fall, which is the main reason to lease an EV rather than buy one. Two lenders can set that number differently on similar cars, so two quotes with the same monthly payment can cost different amounts over the term. Compare the total of payments plus drive-off, and the purchase-option price, not the monthly alone.
Incentives, by name. The federal credit is gone from leases. What California still offers, and which brands take part, is in the guide. Ask for each incentive by name on the quote and confirm it is still open the day you sign; programs open and close month to month.
Five things to know before you lease an EV
Where the car will charge most nights. How many miles a typical day runs, with detours. How often you drive more than 200 miles round trip. What you drive if the EV is charging and you have to leave now. How the charging stops fall on the long trip you take most. If all five have clean answers, an EV lease fits. If the answer on charging is "usually," a plug-in hybrid such as the NX 450h+ or RX 450h+ on this page covers the gap and runs as a normal hybrid when the battery is flat. If it is "sometimes," a hybrid is the safer lease.
How EV lease deals through 021 work
Tell us the car and the trim. Several dealers quote it at once, we write the best whole deal with our fee shown on the written quote, you approve one number, and the car is delivered to your door anywhere in California. Common questions
Who has the best EV lease deals right now?
There is no published electric offer on our list this month; every EV is quoted per car. Dealer specials are one store's number each; a broker gets several dealers to quote the same car, and the written quote shows the number.
Can you get the $7,500 EV tax credit on a lease?
Not any more. Lender and manufacturer incentives still exist and are already inside the payments shown.
Is it a good idea to lease an EV?
Usually, yes, and more often than for a gas car. On a lease the lender sets the residual and carries the resale risk, which on an electric model, where the technology and the used-car prices move fast, is the risk most people do not want to hold. You get the new battery, the full warranty period and the current range, and you hand the car back before the next generation makes it look old. Buying wins if you keep the car for many years and drive far beyond the mileage allowance. Whether a given month is good depends on the incentives in the program, which the written quote lists by name.
Are EVs still cheap to lease?
Less cheap than in 2024 and early 2025, when the credit was passed through.
Can you lease an EV for $100 a month?
Not on any published offer this month. The $100-a-month EV leases of 2024 relied on the federal credit plus stacked incentives on slow-selling models. If one appears, it will be on this page.
What is the 1.5% rule when leasing a car?
A rule of thumb: a monthly payment at or under 1% of MSRP, with only the drive-off paid at signing, is a strong lease; 1.5% is fair for a luxury car or one with a weak residual. It ignores the money factor, incentives and mileage, so use it to spot a bad quote, not to accept one.
