Porsche lease return and every other lease-end option
A Porsche lease return goes through Porsche Financial Services (PFS). About 60 days before maturity, a PFS Lease-end Specialist helps you book a free pre-inspection with AutoVIN, the inspector PFS uses for every wear decision, and about 30 days out you schedule the return with an authorized Porsche Center. PFS calls your choices Restart, Re-lease, Retain and Return.

How a Porsche lease return works
Watch for PFS's messages. They start at least 210 days before your lease ends and explain your options.
Book the pre-inspection. Around 60 days before maturity, a Lease-end Specialist calls to schedule it, or you can book through AutoVIN's site or at 1-800-PORSCHE. It isn't required, but it's the most accurate way to see your charges ahead of time. The Porsche Center can't decide excess wear; AutoVIN does every inspection.
Repair and restore. Repairs must be done by an authorized Porsche Center; send the receipts to pfs.remarketing@porsche.us before the return. Remove or reverse any aftermarket modifications, since anything left on the car is charged.
Schedule the return. Contact your Porsche Center about 30 days before maturity. Bring both key fobs, the owner's manual and all removable options and accessories.
Pay the final statement. It lists unrepaired excess wear, excess miles, any fees still on the account (such as late fees or citations) and the disposition fee. PFS takes debit cards and bank payments for it, not credit cards.
More on turn-in day: returning a leased car. PFS's options and loyalty programs are on its lease-end page, with details in its lease-end FAQ.
What the Porsche lease return inspection looks for
PFS sets its wear standards in your lease agreement and relies on the AutoVIN report to apply them. Three points in PFS's rules are worth planning for:
Aftermarket parts. The car has to be back in the condition it was in at lease signing, so wheels, exhausts, wraps and other changes should come off before the return.
Repairs outside a Porsche Center. PFS requires repairs to be done by an authorized Porsche Center.
Miles. Every mile over the total you agreed to at signing is billed at the rate in your lease.
If you bought Porsche Lease-end Protection, check what it covers before you pay for repairs. More: excess wear and tear on a leased car.
Buying your Porsche at lease end
To keep the car, get the payoff from an authorized Porsche Center. The payoff documents include an odometer statement, which you fill out and email to PFS at pfs.customerservice@porsche.com so it can release the title. The residual value is set by your contract and isn't negotiable. At maturity, the price is that purchase option price plus any fees your contract lists; before then, it's the payoff. PFS points out that if the car is worth more than the residual, you can buy it at the residual or put the equity toward your next deal.
California treats a lease buyout as a taxable purchase. When a dealer handles it, the dealer collects the tax. When you buy straight from the lender, the lender may not collect it, and you pay use tax to the DMV when you transfer the registration (CDTFA guide for vehicle purchasers). Financing and the DMV steps are in buying out your lease in California.
Can a third party buy out a Porsche lease?
Probably yes, but PFS doesn't publish a policy, so confirm it. A lessee-compiled list from 2021 says PFS charges outside dealers the same payoff as you, and in May 2024 a lessee reported that PFS confirmed by phone that any dealer, not only a Porsche Center, can buy the car as a trade-in. A private buyer is different: you can't sell a car you don't own, so the title has to come to you first.
Before you accept an offer from CarMax, Carvana or a dealer of another brand, ask PFS to confirm it will accept that buyer's payoff and at what amount.
For a private sale, buy the car first. CDTFA presumes your buyout is a sale for resale, so it isn't taxed, if you transfer title and registration to the buyer within 10 days of getting the title and don't use the car yourself in between.

Ending a Porsche lease early
Return it early. PFS says the payments due under your contract must be satisfied when you return the car. California caps what you owe at unpaid payments to date, other amounts due, a reasonable disposition fee, and the gap between the remaining lease balance and the car's value.
Buy it or trade it in. If you buy the car early, or trade it in toward another car, California caps the price at the remaining lease balance plus unpaid payments, other amounts due and any purchase-option fee in your contract. If the car is worth more, the difference goes to you.
End of Term Lease Loyalty Program. When you sign a new PFS lease or finance contract on a new, untitled Porsche and return your current car at the same time, PFS may waive some of your remaining payments, based on the models and years involved, plus the disposition fee. Leases with an original term under 24 months, single-payment leases and past-due payments don't qualify, and you still owe excess miles and wear.
Transfer. Lease-transfer marketplaces report that PFS allows transfers with credit approval of the new lessee, but not in the last six months of the lease, and PFS's Lease-end Protection terms allow that coverage to move with an assumed lease. Confirm the current rules with PFS.
How each exit is priced: getting out of a car lease early.
PFS rules
What PFS allows, and what to confirm first.
PFS doesn't publish a policy. In May 2024 a lessee reported PFS said any dealer can buy it. Confirm it.
You can't sell a car you don't own, so the title has to come to you first.
Marketplaces report transfers with credit approval, but not in the last six months. Confirm with PFS.
Re-lease is a new term on your current car. A shorter extension may also be possible. Ask PFS early.
Lease or finance your next Porsche through PFS and return your current car at the same time.
End of Term Lease Loyalty Program, on a new Porsche through PFS. Leases under 24 months don't qualify.
The Porsche Center can't decide excess wear. AutoVIN does every inspection.
Waivers as of September 2026. The Loyalty Waiver also covers billed excess wear up to a set limit, not excess miles. Third-party reports: 2021 and May 2024.
Extending or re-leasing a Porsche
PFS offers Re-lease, a new term on your current car, for eligible vehicles, and its FAQ refers to extension agreements, so a shorter extension may also be possible. Ask your Porsche Center or a Lease-end Specialist at 1-800-PORSCHE well before maturity, and get the new maturity date in writing.
The Porsche disposition fee and loyalty waivers
PFS says the disposition fee covers reconditioning, transport, auction fees and the inspection. As of September 2026, PFS waives it in two ways:
Loyalty Waiver. Lease or finance your next Porsche through PFS and return your current car at the same time, and PFS waives the disposition fee, plus billed excess wear up to a set limit. Excess miles aren't covered, and the waiver is subject to credit approval.
End of Term Lease Loyalty Program. Moving into a new Porsche through PFS under this program also waives the disposition fee on return.
Background: the disposition fee.
Porsche lease return timeline: 120, 90, 60 and 30 days out
120 days: PFS's messages should already be arriving. Get the payoff from a Porsche Center, compare it with the car's value, and ask which loyalty programs apply to your account.
90 days: Choose Restart, Re-lease, Retain or Return, and start pricing your next car.
60 days: Take the Lease-end Specialist's call, book the AutoVIN pre-inspection, and plan repairs at a Porsche Center. Remove aftermarket parts.
30 days: Book the return with your Porsche Center. Gather both fobs, the manual and every removable accessory, and send any repair receipts to PFS.
After turn-in: File the DMV release of liability and check the lease-end statement.
In California
Early termination rights. Civil Code section 2987 lets you end a lease early and caps what PFS can charge. Before the car is sold, the lessor must send written notice at least 10 days ahead, and you can pay for an independent appraisal that binds both sides. If you return the car voluntarily and pay what you owe on time, the early termination can't be reported to credit bureaus as negative.
Tax on a buyout. Buying the car is a taxable purchase, with the 10-day resale exception described above.
Release of liability. The DMV lets a lessee file a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability. Filing it within five days of the return protects you from parking and traffic violations tied to the car afterward.
What to ask PFS or the Porsche Center
What is my payoff today, and what will it be on my maturity date?
Will PFS accept a payoff from this buyer, and is it the same as mine?
Does my next deal qualify for the Loyalty Waiver or the End of Term Lease Loyalty Program?
Is my car eligible to re-lease or extend, and on what terms?
Which items on the AutoVIN report cost less to repair than to pay?
How 021 helps
When your next car comes through 021, we can take care of your Porsche lease as well. Most often a dealer in our network takes it in trade, and any equity can go toward the next car. We can also handle the return, a buyout or a lease transfer.
021 Auto Leasing is a California-licensed auto broker (license #82402). When you're ready for the next car, Porsche or any other make, 021 gets several dealers to quote the same car, negotiates the whole deal and delivers it, and you see one written quote with payment, drive-off, term, miles, taxes, fees and 021's fee before you agree to anything. If a dealer has already quoted you, send it to Beat my deal.
