Military car discount programs (plus first-responder and graduate offers)
A military car discount is usually a carmaker program, not a dealer favor: the brand pays a credit toward a new car for eligible service members, veterans and often their families, and some brands include first responders.

The carmaker pays it. Check how it works on a lease.
1
Verify before you shop
As of September 2026, Hyundai, BMW and Audi verify military status online through ID.me.
2
Ask whose lease
Many programs only apply if the brand's own finance company writes the lease.
3
Ask how much, on a lease
The lease version of a credit can be smaller than the cash version.
4
See where it lands
It should show as its own line, reducing the capitalized cost or the amount due at signing.
Key takeaways
Many of these programs work on a lease, but often only through the brand's own finance company, and the amount can differ between leasing, financing and paying cash. College graduate programs work the same way, and some double as easier-approval programs for people with little credit history.
How a military car discount works
The manufacturer pays it, the selling dealer applies it, and it runs in program windows. BMW's military and first-responder incentive for September 2026 required delivery by September 30, 2026; Hyundai's Military Program runs from January 7 to December 31, 2026.
It's for new cars, often with exclusions. Audi's Military Select Program, for instance, covers select new, unused models, and BMW limits its offer to one per customer per calendar year.
The amount can depend on how you pay. On BMW's September 2026 terms, the credit for leasing through BMW Financial Services, the credit with a promotional finance rate, and the credit for paying cash or financing elsewhere were different amounts on most models.
On a lease, it lands somewhere specific. Hyundai's terms say that on a lease the bonus goes toward the amount due at signing or the capitalized cost reduction.
Who qualifies for a military car discount, and how to prove it
Military. Active duty, reserve and National Guard members, veterans and retirees are the usual groups. Family coverage varies: Hyundai includes spouses, BMW includes immediate family members, and Audi includes military family members.
First responders. Hyundai's First Responders Program covers police officers, sheriffs and deputies, correctional officers, state troopers, federal law enforcement officers, firefighters (paid or volunteer), EMTs and paramedics, 911 dispatchers, and their spouses. BMW's incentive includes active and retired first responders.
Proof. As of September 2026, Hyundai, BMW and Audi all verify military status online through ID.me. BMW's process gives you a customer ID and offer code, and you bring a photo ID and the manufacturer certificate to the dealer. Hyundai's first responder program asks for verifiable proof of active service or employment.
Verify before you shop. Some programs look at your status at the start of the program period, and the online check has to be done before you buy.
College graduate programs
Graduate programs come in two kinds, and some brands combine them:
Approval programs make it easier to get approved with little credit history. Audi Financial Services' College Graduate Program covers leasing and financing with no credit history required, no co-signer and no security deposit on a new lease, for people who graduated in the past 24 months or will in the next six, with a job or a written job offer. On a lease, the monthly payment is capped at a set share of gross monthly income.
Credit programs add a manufacturer credit, usually through the brand's finance company. Toyota's College Rebate requires proof of graduation within the previous two years or current enrollment, plus proof of employment, with the car financed or leased through Toyota Financial Services. Hyundai's College Grad Program, through Hyundai Motor Finance, covers associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees and registered nursing school within the past two years or the next six months. BMW's College Graduate Program pairs a credit and a special rate with approval rules, including at least six months of credit history with no derogatory marks.
If you're also new to credit, see your first car lease.
Does a military car discount apply to a lease?
Often, yes. As of September 2026, Hyundai's military bonus applies to leases and finance contracts but not cash deals; BMW has a separate lease credit for BMWs leased through BMW Financial Services; Audi's Military Select credit applies to a lease or a purchase; and Toyota's College Rebate works on a lease or loan through Toyota Financial Services. Three things to check on any program:
Whose lease. Many programs only apply if the brand's own finance company writes the lease.
How much, on a lease. The lease version of a credit can be smaller than the cash version.
Where it lands. Make sure the credit shows as its own line on the quote and the contract, reducing the capitalized cost or the amount due at signing. How to read a lease quote shows where to look.
Does it work on a lease?
Often, yes. Four examples.
Applies to leases and finance contracts, but not cash deals.
A separate lease credit for BMWs leased through BMW Financial Services.
The credit applies to a lease or a purchase.
Works on a lease or loan through Toyota Financial Services.
As of September 2026. What a program covers and combines with changes by brand and by month, so read its terms.
Stacking with other offers
What a program can be combined with changes by brand and by month, so read the compatibility line in its terms. Two examples from September 2026: BMW's military and first-responder incentive could be combined with other available offers, while Hyundai's Military Program couldn't be combined with its First Responders Program or with Hyundai Circle plan sales. Loyalty and conquest credits are covered in loyalty and conquest offers.
Ending a lease because of military orders
Separate from any discount, the federal Servicemembers Civil Relief Act lets you end a vehicle lease without an early termination charge after you enter military service, or if you receive permanent change of station orders from the continental U.S. to a post outside it (or from outside it to anywhere else), or deployment orders of 180 days or more. How it works:
You give the leasing company written notice with a copy of your orders, and return the car within 15 days.
The lessor must refund payments made in advance within 30 days, which the Justice Department says includes a capitalized cost reduction paid at signing.
You still owe taxes, fees and reasonable excess wear charges.
Orders from one base to another inside the continental U.S., such as a move to a California base, don't qualify.
The CFPB explains the process on its servicemember auto lease page, and other exits are in getting out of a car lease early.
In California
The DMV lists nonresident military personnel stationed in California, and their nonresident spouses, as exempt from the vehicle license fee, the part of California registration that's based on the car's value. On a leased car, ask the leasing company how the exemption is applied to your registration, since the lessor is the car's legal owner.
What to ask
Is there a military, first-responder or graduate program on this model this month, and when does it end?
Does it work on a lease, and only through the brand's finance company?
On a lease, is it applied to the capitalized cost or to the amount due at signing?
What can it be combined with?
What proof do you need, and do I verify online before I come in?
Will the credit appear as its own line on the quote and the contract?
How 021 helps
021 Auto Leasing arranges leases, financing and cash purchases on any make and model, and gets several dealers to quote the same car. Before you agree to anything, you get one written quote with the payment, drive-off, term, miles, taxes, fees and 021's fee, with nothing hidden, so you can check that any program credit you qualify for is on the page.
